Discord's New Search: Your Chats Now on the Web

Discord is introducing a new feature that will make conversations from eligible public servers searchable on the web. This update, targeting 'Discoverable Servers,' aims to help a wider audience find useful information previously hidden within discussions.

Starting November 16, each Discoverable Server will have a web page that may include automated summaries of active public channels. By mid-December, selected messages from these public channels could appear in search engine results. Administrators can choose which channels participate, and individual users can opt out of making their messages publicly searchable. Private servers and direct messages remain unaffected.

The announcement has triggered privacy concerns among some users who worry about conversations being exposed beyond their original context. Questions have also been raised about the potential use of these conversations for AI training, similar to past controversies. Discord states users can manage preferences, and teen users are excluded from the feature.
