This unusual event, described as a 'robot traffic jam,' highlighted concerns about pedestrian access in urban areas increasingly populated by autonomous delivery machines.

Coco Robotics acknowledged the incident, attributing it to a routing error that caused multiple robots to reroute simultaneously as they began their daily tasks. The company stated that the issue was swiftly resolved, with robots returning to normal operation within minutes and safeguards added to prevent future occurrences.

This pileup is not the first challenge for delivery robots in Chicago, which has been piloting the technology. Past issues have included resident opposition and documented crashes.
