Claude Code Automates Tasks: Set It and Forget It!

Summary
- New Routines feature automates tasks on a schedule or trigger.
- Integration with GitHub/GitLab and multi-step routines are supported.
- Daily usage limits apply to automated routines across plans.

Anthropic has introduced a significant enhancement to its Claude Code platform with the 'Routines' feature. This innovation enables users to automate routine tasks, scheduling them to run at set intervals or in response to specific events. The routines operate using Claude's own infrastructure, eliminating the need for users to manually trigger them or manage scheduling and server setups.
The Routines feature offers deep integration with code repositories such as GitHub and GitLab. Developers can now create multi-step routines that execute automatically, streamlining workflows. This capability aims to redefine agentic work by allowing for more concurrent task management.
Currently in research preview, Routines are available to users on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans with Claude Code on the web enabled. However, running these automated tasks is not free; it consumes daily usage allowances. Specific daily limits are in place: Pro users get 5 routines, Max users 15, and Team/Enterprise users 25.
In parallel, the Claude Code desktop app has received a redesign. It now boasts a new sidebar for managing active and recent sessions, enhanced access to tools and plugins, and customizable view modes. This redesign allows users to review and modify Claude's output directly within the app, reducing the need to switch between applications. Enhanced keyboard shortcuts and navigation further improve user experience.
