19 Feb
Summary
- Chrome is introducing vertical tabs for easier tab management.
- The feature is currently available on the unstable Chrome Canary build.
- General availability for vertical tabs is expected in a few months.

Google has begun rolling out vertical tabs to Chrome, a significant enhancement for managing numerous open browser windows. This feature, currently accessible through the Chrome Canary build, allows users to organize their tabs along the side of the browser window.
Vertical tabs provide a clearer view of tab titles, making it easier to identify and switch between them. This improves browser cleanliness and efficiency, offering more screen real estate. While the Canary version is not recommended for daily use due to stability concerns, the feature is slated for general availability in the coming months.
To enable vertical tabs in Canary, users can navigate to Appearance settings and change the 'Tab Strip Position' to 'Side'. Once active, tabs can be rearranged, grouped, customized with colors and names, and even minimized to a sidebar. This addition is a major step towards improved tab management for Chrome users.
