Macs Left Behind as Chrome Ends Monterey Support
24 Jan
Summary
- Google Chrome ends support for macOS 12 Monterey with Chrome 150.
- Future Chrome versions require macOS 13 Ventura or later.
- Older Macs may be incompatible with the necessary OS upgrade.

Google Chrome will cease support for macOS 12 Monterey later this year with Chrome 150. This means users will need macOS 13 Ventura or a newer operating system to continue receiving updates from Chrome 151 onwards, scheduled for July 28, 2026. The inability to upgrade to macOS Ventura affects owners of several Mac models. Specifically, iMacs older than 2017, MacBooks manufactured before 2018, and MacBook Pros released prior to 2017 are incompatible with the required OS upgrade.
Mac mini desktops from before 2018 and MacBooks from before 2016 also cannot be updated to macOS Ventura. While users can continue to use Chrome 150 on macOS 12, they will miss out on essential security updates, increasing vulnerability to new threats. For those unable to upgrade, alternative browsers exist, though their long-term support for older operating systems is not guaranteed. For instance, Mozilla Firefox plans to end security updates for several older macOS versions in February 2026.
