7 Feb
Summary
- China developed a high-power microwave system to disrupt satellite networks.
- The TPG1000Cs system can deliver 20 gigawatts continuously for one minute.
- The weapon is compact, weighs five tonnes, and can fire thousands of pulses.

China has developed a groundbreaking high-power microwave system, designated TPG1000Cs, designed to disrupt satellite networks, including SpaceX's Starlink. This ground-based weapon boasts an impressive output of 20 gigawatts continuously for one minute, a significant advancement over earlier technologies that were limited to mere seconds of operation.
Researchers at the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology in Xian have created a device that measures four meters in length and weighs approximately five tonnes. Unlike previous bulky microwave weapons, this system is compact and versatile, potentially deployable on trucks, ships, aircraft, or even in space.
The TPG1000Cs can emit up to 3,000 high-energy microwave pulses in a single session and has already undergone extensive testing. Chinese officials view satellite networks like Starlink as national security risks, and this development is seen as a strategic countermeasure.
