These tests signify a major step forward in China's development of its amphibious assault capabilities.
The GJ-21 UAV is described as a heavy, low-observable, shipborne platform with a length of 12.2 meters and a wingspan of 14.4 meters. It represents an advancement in naval drone technology.
The Sichuan, the first vessel of China's Type 076 class, was launched in December 2024. This multi-purpose assault ship exceeds 40,000 tons in displacement and features a full-length flight deck. It is equipped with an electromagnetic catapult and arresting gear, enabling the deployment of fixed-wing UAVs and helicopters.
With its advanced capabilities, including the capacity to carry amphibious assault vehicles, the Sichuan is designed for extensive amphibious operations and long-distance maritime missions, enhancing the PLA Navy's operational reach.
