As of this week, ChatGPT's mobile application has achieved a significant financial milestone, generating $3 billion in worldwide consumer spending on iOS and Android devices. This figure, estimated by app intelligence provider Appfigures, reflects the total revenue since the app's debut in May 2023.
The majority of this spending occurred in 2025, with consumers estimated to have spent $2.48 billion on the app. This represents a substantial 408% increase compared to the $487 million spent in 2024. In its inaugural year, 2023, the app earned $42.9 million before experiencing a 1,036% growth to reach last year's total.
This rapid consumer adoption outpaces many established applications. ChatGPT reached the $3 billion spending threshold in 31 months, considerably faster than TikTok (58 months), Disney+ (42 months), and HBO Max (46 months). Other AI apps, such as xAI's Grok, are also showing similar revenue trajectories, with Grok closely matching ChatGPT's spending pace among AI rivals.
