Summary
- New carbon-fiber composite antenna reflectors offer superior space performance.
- Invention boasts high rigidity, minimal density, and zero thermal expansion.
- Project leader confirmed patent and readiness for implementation.
Specialists at the M.F. Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology have engineered advanced antenna reflectors from carbon-fiber composite. This innovation is tailored for critical applications within the space industry, unmanned aerial vehicle systems, and advanced radar technologies.
The new composite material significantly outperforms traditional metal antennas for space missions. Carbon fiber offers exceptional rigidity with minimal weight, a thermal expansion coefficient close to zero, and robust resistance to vacuum and radiation. These properties ensure the reflector's dimensional stability across extreme temperatures ranging from -150 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This development addresses key challenges in spacecraft design, namely reducing mass to cut launch costs and maintaining precise dimensions under thermal stress. A patent has been granted for the invention, and a production model is now ready for implementation. Demand for these advanced reflectors has already been confirmed with an implementation certificate from Krasmash JSC.
