20 Feb
Summary
- Updated BYD Seal boasts larger boot and frunk capacity.
- New safety features include a driver-monitoring system.
- Smartphone key access and updated wheel designs debut.

The BYD Seal, a stylish electric saloon that has been a competitor to the Tesla Model 3 since its 2023 UK arrival, is set to receive a substantial update. This 2026 model year refresh focuses on enhancing practicality and safety technology, addressing the arrival of updated rivals and new competition. Visually, the changes are understated, featuring a new 19-inch wheel design and three new exterior paint options: Ruby Red, Obsidian Black, and Lavender Grey. The branding at the rear has also been adjusted, with the boot logo repositioned.
The interior sees minimal changes, with the BYD logo removed from seat headrests and NFC branding from the armrest. More significant are the technological upgrades, including a new driver-monitoring system that meets stringent safety requirements, and a highly anticipated Bluetooth key for smartphone access. Practicality sees a notable improvement with the rear boot capacity increasing from 400 litres to 485 litres, and the addition of tethering hooks. The front boot, or frunk, also gains 19 litres, reaching 72 litres.
Performance and mechanical hardware remain consistent with previous models. The rear-wheel-drive Design variant produces 308bhp with a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds, while the dual-motor, four-wheel-drive Excellence offers 523bhp, achieving the same sprint in 3.8 seconds. Both variants retain their respective ranges of 354 miles (Design) and 323 miles (Excellence). Pricing for the Design remains £45,730 and the Excellence is £48,730.
