Summary

- The airline will equip over 300 aircraft with Starlink within two years.
- Starlink provides fast, reliable internet for streaming and working.

British Airways has initiated a significant upgrade by becoming the first UK airline to offer Elon Musk's Starlink internet system. The technology was recently featured on a flight from London Heathrow to Houston.
The airline plans to integrate Starlink across its fleet of over 300 aircraft, excluding BA CityFlyer planes, over the next two years as part of a substantial transformation investment.
Starlink, developed by SpaceX, utilizes a network of satellites to provide passengers with fast and dependable internet access for streaming, working, and staying connected.
This new offering will also enhance communication capabilities for flight and cabin crews with ground staff. Several international carriers already provide Starlink connectivity to their passengers.
Sean Doyle, the chief executive of British Airways, expressed excitement about bringing this advanced connectivity to customers, emphasizing its role in transforming the travel experience.
The Starlink service will be available to all passengers free of charge in every cabin, a notable change from the airline's previous tiered Wi-Fi service.
Previously, onboard Wi-Fi options ranged from free text messaging for loyalty members to paid packages for streaming content, with prices varying based on flight duration.
This rollout follows a public exchange between Elon Musk and Ryanair's CEO regarding the feasibility of Starlink on flights.
