BMW Motorrad has introduced the new R 1300 R Superhooligan, a special edition motorcycle unveiled at Daytona Bike Week. This machine pays homage to the 50th anniversary of Steve McLaughlin's R 90 S victory in the inaugural Daytona Superbike race in 1976. The Superhooligan sports McLaughlin's iconic #83 number and a vibrant orange livery reminiscent of the 1976 R 90 S race bike. It also features an orange frame, blue subframe and fork tubes, and brake calipers borrowed from the M 1000 RR, complemented by carbon fiber wheels and other components.
Significant performance enhancements have been made, including fully adjustable levers, an Akrapovic titanium exhaust, milled footrests, and Wilbers suspension with an inverted fork offering an extra 30 mm of travel. These upgrades are designed to improve handling and deliver a superior, superbike-level riding experience, enabling speeds up to 275 kmph. The R 1300 R base model is powered by a 1300 cc engine producing 145 hp and 149 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox.
The BMW R 1300 R Superhooligan will be showcased alongside the historic R 90 S and legendary figures from the 1976 racing season during the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Daytona 200-mile race. This event is scheduled to take place in Daytona from March 5th to 7th, 2026.
