Bell Canada has unveiled plans for a major expansion of its data centre campus in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood, near Regina. Representatives presented new zoning bylaw amendments, indicating the potential for approximately nine new data centres to be constructed in stages between 2027 and 2030.
The project's capacity has been quadrupled from an initial 300 megawatts to 1.2 gigawatts, with Bell purchasing an additional 895 acres of land. This expansion will see the campus stretch from 'Old Highway 16' to the Regina Bypass, now encompassing over 1,000 acres.
Bell Canada announced it will relocate its AI Fabric headquarters to downtown Regina, aiming to secure a suitable location. The campus will host technical staff, while the head office will accommodate management and executive roles, with significant job creation expected.
The expansion is projected to create up to 1,200 construction jobs and between 280 to 500 permanent positions, plus 100 executive roles. The RM of Sherwood council passed the first reading of the bylaw, moving the project towards a public hearing, with provincial environmental assessments pending.
