Dutch chipmaking startup Axelera AI has announced significant progress, signing multiple contracts to supply its newly launched 'Europa' chips. These chips are destined for AI factories, which are data centers focused on training and running artificial intelligence software. The company's CEO indicated that they have secured deals valued in the tens of millions, with a pursuit of $1.5 billion in potential sales.
Axelera AI, founded in Eindhoven in 2021, has already raised over $450 million. Their 'Europa' chips are designed for more demanding tasks, such as on corporate servers. This follows their initial Metis chips aimed at edge applications. The company is also working on a future 'Titania' chiplet architecture for data centers and supercomputers.
The startup is participating in EU-backed projects like IT4LIA in Italy and MeluXina in Luxembourg, collaborating with Dell and systems integrator E4. Axelera AI is among European startups targeting the AI inference market, differentiating itself from competitors in France, Britain, and Spain.
