Summary
- AutoSR technology will enhance Ally X gameplay starting April.
- This AI upscaling renders games at lower resolution, then boosts quality.
- The feature aims to provide higher frame rates on the handheld console.

Owners of the Xbox Ally X handheld console can look forward to smoother gameplay as Microsoft begins supporting AutoSR technology. A public preview of this feature is expected to roll out in April, promising enhanced frame rates.
AutoSR is an AI upscaling technology designed to render games at a lower resolution that is easier for the hardware to process. Windows then uses AI to upscale the image to approximate native resolution quality. This compromise allows less powerful GPUs to deliver higher frame rates, making games more playable across a wider range of hardware.
Originally developed with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in mind, AutoSR's compatibility with the Ally X's AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip is noteworthy. While AutoSR typically requires explicit game support, it remains to be seen if this will be the case for the Ally X. Microsoft first introduced AutoSR in 2024, with early versions appearing in Windows Insider Program releases.
