Millions of AT&T customers are in line for compensation following two significant data breaches. The company has agreed to a $177 million settlement, offering affected individuals up to $7,500. The breaches, one in 2019 and another in April 2024, exposed personal data including Social Security numbers and phone records. The 2019 incident impacted millions of current and former customers, while the 2024 breach involved nearly all US customers' phone records.
The settlement consolidates multiple lawsuits filed after both disclosures. While the 2019 breach class will receive $149 million, the 2024 breach class will get $28 million. Kroll Settlement Administration is managing the claims process, with a dedicated website, telecomdatasettlement.com, available for submissions. Those eligible can file claims online or by mail.
Victims demonstrating documented losses from the 2019 breach could receive up to $5,000, while those without proof of loss will receive a tiered cash payment. For the 2024 breach, documented losses may yield up to $2,500, with remaining funds distributed evenly among others. The crucial deadline to file any claim is December 18, 2025.
