AT&T Boosts 5G Speeds by 80% After Spectrum Buy

AT&T has recently completed a substantial $23 billion purchase of spectrum, a move that is rapidly improving 5G performance nationwide. This strategic acquisition is enabling significant speed increases for millions of customers using 5G-capable phones and AT&T Internet Air plans. The company reports download speed gains of up to 80% for wireless users and 55% for home internet subscribers in upgraded areas, enhancing capabilities for streaming, gaming, and providing essential connectivity to rural regions.

The deployment of new midband 3.45 GHz spectrum has been activated at over 23,000 cell sites across more than 5,300 cities in 48 states. This upgrade provides a crucial balance of speed and coverage, ensuring a more consistent and faster network experience. Notably, these improvements are being rolled out without an immediate price increase for existing customers, distinguishing AT&T from competitors who have implemented price locks.

Beyond consumer benefits, the expanded spectrum capacity strengthens AT&T's FirstNet program, guaranteeing reliable communication for first responders during emergencies.
