Arcade.dev, a startup focused on enabling AI agents within business software, is introducing a new feature called Tool Recommendation. This innovation addresses the rising costs associated with AI agents by reducing the number of tokens required for them to discover and select the correct actions. The system works by helping agents find the right tools without needing to load extensive lists of software functions into conversations.

This new capability promises significant efficiency gains, with Arcade.dev reporting up to a 91% reduction in tokens used for tool discovery and a potential 37% decrease in input costs. In broader workflow tests, a 7.6% reduction in overall token bills was observed. Tool Recommendation will be available to Arcade Cloud customers starting October 15, without an additional feature charge.

The company's platform provides security and permission checks for AI agents, a catalog of ready-made tools, and administrative controls for auditing agent actions. Arcade.dev's approach allows agents to use tools from various sources securely, ensuring that actions are authorized and logged. This new feature integrates with existing infrastructure, supporting multiple AI models and agent frameworks through the MCP protocol.

While competitors like Microsoft, Anthropic, and OpenAI offer their own tool discovery methods, Arcade.dev's pitch emphasizes the seamless packaging of discovery with execution controls and policy enforcement. This layer aims to provide a unified system for managing AI agent actions across diverse AI systems, ensuring consistent security and compliance. The feature is expected to be compatible with new frontier models, with Arcade aiming for rapid integration support.
