Apple's Ambitious Siri Upgrade Stumbles
12 Feb
Summary
- Siri's planned enhancements hit testing snags, impacting release timelines.
- New features may be spread across multiple iOS updates due to issues.
- The overhaul aims for deeper personal data integration and app control.

Apple's long-planned overhaul of its Siri virtual assistant has encountered fresh difficulties in recent weeks, potentially delaying the release of several eagerly awaited features. Initially intended for the iOS 26.4 update in March, the new capabilities are now being rescheduled for later versions, possibly including iOS 26.5 in May and iOS 27 in September.
These latest setbacks are part of an ongoing challenge for Apple, which first announced plans for a revamped Siri in June 2024. The planned upgrades include allowing Siri to access personal data and on-screen content, along with precise voice control over third-party applications. These features were originally expected by early 2025 but were previously delayed to 2026.
Testing has revealed issues such as improper query processing and excessive response times, leading to the current postponements. Some features, particularly the ability for Siri to access personal data like searching text messages to find shared content, are especially prone to slipping. Apple is also considering warning users about potential reliability issues with early releases.
