Apple Unlocks Siri's AI with Privacy Shield
10 Sep
Summary
- New Siri features use dedicated hardware for audio processing.
- Raw audio is not saved, not accessible to OS or apps.
- Users control feature activation and data sharing.

Apple recently introduced advanced Siri AI Audio Intelligence capabilities, including Siri Recap and Live Rewind. These new features are designed with a strong emphasis on user privacy.
The company detailed its approach to handling audio data from these AI-powered functions. Raw audio is processed within a dedicated secure hardware enclave on the S11 chip, powering devices like the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.
Crucially, this audio data is not saved as a file and is inaccessible to the operating system, third-party applications, or Apple itself. Users have direct control over when and how these features are activated, with options like double-tapping the Digital Crown for Live Rewind.
Data transfers, if necessary, are secured via encryption through the Secure Exclaves of connected devices. Users also choose what text information to retain from Siri Recap and Live Rewind. For enhanced security, this data syncs with end-to-end encryption for users with a device passcode and iCloud two-factor authentication.
