Apple's Digital ID Transforms Domestic Air Travel Security

As of November 2025, Apple is revolutionizing the air travel experience with the launch of its Digital ID feature. This innovative solution allows iOS users with compatible iPhones and Apple Watches to securely store their unexpired U.S. passports or valid government-issued driver's licenses in their Apple Wallet.
The new Digital ID is currently being tested with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and will be accepted at over 250 airports nationwide starting on November 12, 2025. This feature is designed to provide a more seamless and efficient checkpoint process for domestic travelers, as they can now present their digital identification directly from their Apple devices.
"Digital IDs brings this secure and convenient option to even more users across the country, as they can now add an ID to Wallet using information from their U.S. passport," said Jennifer Bailey, Apple's vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.
To use the Digital ID, iOS users must have an iPhone 11 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later, with the latest version of iOS or watchOS. They will also need to have Face ID or Touch ID enabled, as well as two-factor authentication set up on their Apple account. The setup process involves uploading a photo of a valid U.S. passport and completing a series of facial/head movements for verification.
While the Digital ID is not a replacement for a physical passport, it offers a secure and convenient alternative for domestic air travel, streamlining the checkpoint process and reducing the hassle for travelers.
