Apple's Wild Earbuds: Cameras See For You!
21 Aug
Summary
- Earbuds capture still images using built-in cameras.
- Visual Intelligence software synchronizes images for AI.
- New AirPods may launch with upgraded Siri AI features.

Apple's unreleased AirPods are set to feature integrated cameras, according to details discovered in an early macOS build. Each earbud will reportedly capture RGB still images up to 1 megapixel, processed with "peripheral inference" for on-device analysis.
These images will be synchronized by Visual Intelligence software, a component of Apple's enhanced Siri AI. The system aims to allow users to save visual information, such as remembering a book they are looking at, by asking Siri.
While the earbuds do not record video, they support periodic image capture in active and passive modes, with active mode offering higher quality. Capture indicator lights are expected for privacy. The accuracy of this visual AI with low-powered cameras remains a question, with a potential 2027 release date suggested.
