15 May
Summary
- iPhone 20's edge-to-edge display may be outdated by 2027 debut.
- Next-gen display in 2028 to use transparent IZO for better visuals.
- iPhone 20 may feature solid-state buttons and a 6,000 mAh battery.

Apple is reportedly planning a significant evolution for its iPhone lineup, with the 20th-anniversary model in 2027 set to showcase an edge-to-edge display. This groundbreaking design, however, may quickly become obsolete with plans for an even more advanced "four-edge bending" display anticipated for release in 2028.
The initial 2027 iPhone is expected to feature an OLED display with a magnesium-silver (MgAg) alloy, which may exhibit some distortion and brightness loss in curved areas. For the subsequent 2028 iteration, Apple intends to switch to an indium zinc oxide (IZO) material. This IZO configuration promises enhanced transparency, reduced distortion, and better heat management, according to reports.
Beyond display innovations, the iPhone 20 is rumored to incorporate solid-state buttons, replacing traditional mechanical components with pressure-sensing controls that offer haptic feedback. There is also speculation about an under-display front camera and integrated speakers, though these features have been rumored for years. Furthermore, a substantial upgrade to a 6,000 mAh battery is anticipated, potentially offering significantly longer battery life than current models.
