Apple is releasing tvOS 27, an update that will end support for older Apple TV models, including the Apple TV HD from 2015 and the first-generation Apple TV 4K from 2017. This significant shift suggests that new Apple TV hardware may finally be in development, a possibility rumored since 2024.

The arrival of the upgraded Siri AI with iOS 27 is anticipated to play a crucial role in future Apple TV devices, potentially transforming them into smart home hubs. Speculation includes features like Thread connectivity and integration with a set-top box that might incorporate a camera for FaceTime calls and gesture controls, possibly even merging with a HomePod.
The first developer beta for tvOS 27 is currently available, with a public beta expected in July. The full release is anticipated in September 2026. This update focuses on minimal feature additions, primarily comprising bug fixes and enhancements for existing functionalities.
