Apple has announced an update to its Mac Studio, integrating the new M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors to deliver a monumental leap in AI performance. This new desktop is engineered for power users, AI developers, and researchers, capable of delivering up to 4x faster AI performance for tasks such as running local large language models compared to previous M3 and M4 chip generations.
The Mac Studio also boasts up to 1.8x faster graphics performance, benefiting 3D rendering and video editing workflows. Connectivity has been significantly upgraded with the inclusion of Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for the first time on Mac Studio, alongside Thunderbolt 5 ports. This enhanced setup supports up to eight displays and offers extensive expansion options for intense workloads.
However, these advancements come with a substantial price increase. The base Mac Studio with the M5 Max starts at $2,499, a $500 increase from previous pricing. Configurations escalate rapidly, with the M5 Ultra version starting at $5,499 and a fully maxed-out model with 16TB of storage reaching an astonishing $18,299. Preorders are open, with availability beginning September 22, 2026.
