Apple Slashes Vision Pro, Siri Teams Amid AI Pivot

Apple has undertaken a significant workforce reduction, cutting more than 200 jobs across various teams. Notably, the company has reduced its workforce dedicated to the Vision Pro virtual reality headset, with around 100 positions eliminated from that division. Additional cuts have affected teams responsible for Siri and the Intelligent Systems Experience, which focuses on integrating artificial intelligence into devices.

This strategic realignment is reportedly aimed at sharpening Apple's focus on its emerging AI capabilities and new hardware development. The company confirmed the layoffs, citing a need to "evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users." Apple acknowledged that while some new roles will be created, a limited number of existing positions will be impacted.

These workforce adjustments occur during a period of transition for Apple, marked by challenges in solidifying its position within the artificial intelligence sector. The rapid buildout of AI technologies has also contributed to memory shortages, increasing the cost of producing Apple's main products. This has led the company to implement price increases on Macs and iPads and introduce hardware leasing plans to attract a wider customer base while managing these new expenses.
