Apple CarPlay to Get Third-Party AI Voice Control

Apple is preparing to integrate third-party artificial intelligence applications with voice control capabilities into its CarPlay system. This development marks a notable strategic adjustment for Apple, as it previously limited voice-control options exclusively to its own Siri assistant. Consequently, users will gain the ability to interact with AI chatbots from various companies through the CarPlay interface. Companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google are expected to be among the first to offer CarPlay versions of their AI apps with voice functionality. Despite this expansion, Apple will retain exclusive control over the Siri button on CarPlay and its wake word. To activate third-party voice controls, users will need to open the respective AI applications. The iPhone maker is reportedly working towards supporting these new app integrations within the next month, enabling developers to design their applications for automatic voice mode activation upon launch.
