Anthropic Taps SpaceX for AI Compute Power
6 May
Summary
- Anthropic gains access to SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center.
- Rate limits for paid Claude Code users are being doubled.
- SpaceX and Anthropic explore orbital AI compute capacity.

Anthropic is set to significantly expand its AI capabilities through a new agreement with SpaceX, utilizing the company's Colossus 1 data center. This deal will provide Anthropic with over 300 megawatts of new compute capacity within the month, following recent agreements with Amazon and Google.
As a direct benefit, paid users of Claude Code will experience doubled rate limits and the removal of peak hour restrictions. Additionally, API rate limits for Claude Opus models are being substantially increased. Both companies have expressed interest in developing multi-gigawatt orbital AI compute capacity.
This collaboration follows public disagreements between Elon Musk and Anthropic leadership. Despite past criticisms, Musk has acknowledged being impressed by the Anthropic team, though he noted a condition for continued compute: the AI must not engage in actions harmful to humanity.
