Summary
- Haiku 5.5 offers 90% price cuts for short AI requests.
- New model targets repetitive enterprise AI tasks effectively.
- Sonnet 5.5 also sees lower caching charges and API credits.

Anthropic has released Claude Haiku 5.5, introducing significant price reductions of up to 90% for AI requests under 100,000 tokens. This strategic move aims to tackle the high costs associated with repetitive enterprise AI tasks such as document summarization, information classification, and database querying.
The new model's pricing starts at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, aligning with OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna. Anthropic estimates that workloads will cost approximately 75% less than with Haiku 4.5, factoring in request sizes and updated token consumption.
Beyond Haiku, Anthropic also announced reduced Sonnet 5.5 caching charges and introduced monthly API credits for Max and Team subscribers. Haiku is positioned as a supportive agent for more demanding models like Opus and Sonnet, which remain ideal for complex coding assignments.
The most substantial savings are for shorter requests; however, above 100,000 tokens, Haiku 5.5's rates increase, though still represent a 50% reduction from its predecessor. Anthropic reports that approximately 90% of Haiku 4.5 requests fell into the shorter, more economical category.
While competitive, Haiku 5.5 is not the absolute cheapest on the market, with OpenAI's Luna matching its lower-tier rates. However, factors beyond token price, such as token consumption and accuracy, influence overall job cost. Anthropic also highlighted benchmark gains over Haiku 4.5 and GPT-6 Luna, though these are vendor-reported. Haiku 5.5 now features adjustable effort levels, with medium as the default setting.
Customers have reported faster results, with Box and Asana noting reduced latency and accelerated task completion. HubSpot achieved a high success rate in its CRM evaluation. In addition to model improvements, Sonnet 5.5 cache reads are halved in cost, and new subscription tiers offer monthly API credits. Haiku 5.5 is available across major cloud platforms, with enhanced cybersecurity restrictions in place.
