Summary
- Claude AI is now integrated into Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
- Users can edit Google files directly within the Claude web interface.
- This move positions Claude as a direct competitor to Google's Gemini.

Anthropic has launched a public beta integrating its Claude AI directly into Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, available on all paid Claude plans. This new capability allows users to open and edit Google files directly within the Claude web interface, moving beyond mere suggestions to active content manipulation. Claude can now preserve formatting while making revisions, rewrite executive summaries, and even transform lists into tables within Google Docs.
In Google Sheets, Claude demonstrates advanced analytical skills by writing formulas, constructing pivot tables and charts, and processing data by pulling ranges into Python for complex cleaning or joining. For Google Slides, Claude can generate new slides using existing themes and layouts, and even inspect its own output for visual errors. This integration aims to position Claude as an AI agent that actively works with employees' existing tools, directly competing with Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot.
This move represents a strategic shift for Anthropic, extending Claude's presence across both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 ecosystems. The integration provides access to Claude's broader tool ecosystem, including connectors and Skills, for enterprises. Anthropic is also ensuring enterprise-grade controls like Compliance API and customer-managed encryption keys are extended to this new Google Workspace add-on. Access is currently included with paid Claude plans, with administrators able to deploy it across their organizations.
