Android Auto Notification Fix Released
16 Feb
Summary
- Android Auto notification rules have been simplified for users.
- A new update reinstates Bluetooth connection for 'Do Not Disturb'.
- Version 26.05.32 of Google Play Services includes the fix.

Google has resolved a persistent problem with Android Auto's notification management, enhancing the driving experience. Previously, the "Do Not Disturb" feature, intended to activate automatically while driving, often misfired. This led to the unintended silencing of alerts for passengers alongside drivers, causing user frustration.
The recent update reintroduces a more dependable trigger: the connection to a car's dashboard via Bluetooth. This method offers a clearer indication that a user is actively driving and that notification silencing is appropriate. The update is rolling out via version 26.05.32 of Google Play Services.
Users with Pixel phones can verify the update by navigating to Settings, then Modes and Driving. If the Bluetooth option reappears under "While driving," the update has been applied. While Samsung phones offer additional checks by confirming connection to an Android Auto dashboard, Google is expected to introduce more granular controls in future updates.
