20 Oct
Summary
- AMD's FSR 4.1 upscaling technology is now coming to Xbox consoles.
- This update aims to boost performance, especially on Series S and handhelds.
- A release timeline for FSR 4.1 on Xbox remains unconfirmed.

AMD has announced that its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4.1 technology will soon be available on Xbox consoles. This includes the powerful Xbox Series X/S and handheld devices like the Ally X, Ally X20, Ally S, and the original Ally. FSR is an innovative technique that renders games at a lower resolution, conserving resources while utilizing machine learning to produce a sharper, high-quality image.
The primary beneficiaries of this integration are anticipated to be owners of the Xbox Series S and the various Ally handheld models, which should experience noticeable performance improvements. Xbox CTO Scott Van Vilet expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that FSR 4.1 provides developers with a valuable tool for optimizing performance and visual fidelity.
While a specific release window for FSR 4.1 on Xbox consoles has not been disclosed, a video suggests an arrival on the Xbox Ally X before the end of the year, with other consoles listed as "coming soon." AMD is also expanding FSR 4.1 availability to older RX 6000-series graphics cards and laptops equipped with Ryzen AI 9 processors, following its recent rollout to 7000-series cards.
Meanwhile, Sony continues to develop its own upscaling technology, Quick Spectral Super Resolution, which is now supported in select titles on the standard PS5 and operates similarly to the existing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution on the PS5 Pro.
