Ambrosia Energy Ignites Texas Battery Gigafactory
15 Oct
Summary
- Ambrosia Energy is building a 10 GWh battery factory near Austin, Texas.
- The factory aims for full production within two to three years.
- The company targets $100 per megawatt-hour for power plants.

Ambrosia Energy has initiated the construction of a substantial 10 gigawatt-hour battery factory situated near Austin, Texas. CEO Ben Longmier announced this development, indicating the facility will support the annual creation of roughly 300-megawatt power plants at their field sites. The factory is set to span 150,000 square feet, with plans to achieve full production capacity within the next two to three years.
This venture follows Ambrosia's emergence from stealth in June, with a mission to construct power plants for data centers at an aggressive cost of $100 per megawatt-hour. The company's strategy relies on pairing solar power with battery storage. This setup ensures that solar panels provide daytime energy and charge the batteries, which then supply power during nighttime or cloudy periods, guaranteeing continuous operation for data centers.
The company is also commencing work on its inaugural commercial power plant in West Texas later this year. This facility will integrate 300 megawatts of solar panels with 660 megawatt-hours of batteries to deliver 30 megawatts of consistent power, targeting an impressive 99.3% uptime. Ambrosia's pilot-scale power plant has already demonstrated continuous operation for over 100 days, generating 200 kilowatts of electricity 24/7.
