Amazon Error Serves R-Rated Rom-Com Instead of Kids Movie
15 Dec
Summary
- Over 100 viewers received an adult film instead of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
- Amazon apologized and updated internal processes to prevent future errors.
- Ofcom found Amazon breached broadcasting code regarding harmful material.

A significant error by Amazon Prime Video resulted in more than 100 customers being served an adult romantic comedy instead of the family film they intended to watch. One complainant rented "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" for their children, only to discover "Love & Other Drugs," rated 15 for strong sexual content and language, was playing.
This incident led to Amazon being found in breach of Ofcom's broadcasting code, specifically regulations on harmful material and the protection of under-18s. Amazon has since apologized for the "SNAFU," assuring that it has updated internal processes and is working with content partners to implement unique film identifiers.
Ofcom noted that the affected movie was a rental, not part of a Prime Video subscription, meaning it wasn't covered by the platform's child profile features. This is not the first time Amazon has fallen foul of Ofcom's code regarding content appropriateness.
