12 Mar
Summary
- AltStore PAL now supports the fediverse via ActivityPub.
- Developers can share app news and updates across platforms.
- Users can interact with app news using Mastodon or Threads accounts.

AltStore PAL, an alternative app store for iOS, has announced its integration with the fediverse, the open social web that utilizes ActivityPub. This move enables developers to communicate app news, updates, and alerts to a wider audience across platforms like Mastodon and Threads. Users can follow these announcements and engage with them directly from their existing social media accounts.
The company has launched its own Mastodon server, establishing AltStore PAL as the first federated app marketplace. This allows for seamless communication, where app updates can appear directly in users' timelines on various fediverse-compatible applications. Interactions such as likes on these posts will also be visible within the AltStore PAL app itself.
Early participants include federated apps like Loops and PeerTube, alongside the Mastodon client iPhanpy. Larger applications are expected to join later, contingent on finalized changes to Apple's commission structure in the EU. Users can access AltStore PAL's Mastodon server at fosstodon.org/@altstore and discover apps on explore.alt.store.
