The Alienware 18 Area-51 is a colossal gaming laptop, weighing 9.2 pounds and blurring the lines with desktop PCs. It boasts extreme performance, featuring a choice of Intel Arrow Lake CPUs and up to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, alongside up to 64GB of RAM and 12TB of storage. The expansive 18-inch, 300Hz display is geared towards gamers.
This 'desktop replacement' starts at $2,400 for an Intel Core Ultra 7, RTX 5060, and 32GB RAM. More powerful configurations escalate in price, with a top-tier customizable model featuring a Core Ultra 9 and RTX 5090 potentially reaching over $5,350. The laptop includes a tactile CherryMX mechanical keyboard option and extensive RGB lighting.
While its 2.5K IPS display offers speed, it lacks the color performance of OLED or mini-LED panels sought by creators. Audio from its quad-speaker array is adequate but not exceptional, and the 1080p webcam is basic. Port selection is generous, including Thunderbolt 5 on higher-end models. Battery life is a mere four hours, reinforcing its stationary nature.
