Airport Line Sabotaged: Cables Cut, Speed Reduced
12 Jan
Summary
- Signalling cables on Airport Express Line were cut.
- Trains now run at restricted speeds between Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium.
- DMRC plans night repairs to minimize passenger inconvenience.

Services on the Delhi Metro's Airport Express Line are currently operating at a reduced speed between Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium stations. This disruption stems from a recent theft attempt where approximately 800 metres of crucial signalling cables were severed, affecting the line's signalling system. The cut cable pieces were discovered near metro pillar number 09 during an inspection.
Trains on the affected section are now running at a restricted speed of 25 kmph towards New Delhi. While services on other parts of the Airport Express Line remain normal, passengers on the impacted segment may experience slightly longer travel times. DMRC is making regular announcements to keep commuters informed.
To address the damage, DMRC plans to carry out cable replacement work exclusively at night, after revenue services conclude, to avoid significant impact on passenger schedules. Preparations for these nighttime repairs are already underway. The metro corporation is also collaborating with law enforcement agencies to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
