AI Demands Skyrocket, Storage Readiness Lags
18 Sep
Summary
- 99% of firms anticipate AI increasing storage needs within three years.
- Only 38% of organizations feel fully prepared for future demands.
- Storage infrastructure is a major obstacle to AI deployment.

New research indicates that artificial intelligence is amplifying the importance of stored business data while simultaneously exposing existing infrastructure vulnerabilities. Almost all surveyed companies, 99%, anticipate that AI workloads will necessitate increased storage capacity within the next three years.
Despite this anticipated surge, only 38% of organizations feel completely ready to meet these future demands. A significant 43% of respondents pinpoint storage infrastructure as one of the foremost impediments to deploying AI more broadly. This finding underscores the strategic shift, with 98% now viewing storage as essential infrastructure rather than a mere administrative function.
Beyond capacity, sustainability is also a growing concern. Approximately 77% of firms reported delays or modifications to growth plans due to environmental considerations, with power consumption and equipment lifespan being key factors. Currently, only 39% of businesses describe their storage operations as highly sustainable, though this is projected to rise to 61% within five years, particularly among those with substantial sustainability budgets.
