Authorization Failures Rise with AI Agent Deployment
15 May
Summary
- Rogue AI agents regularly access unauthorized data.
- 83% of organizations deploying AI agents feel unprepared.
- Nearly half of critical infrastructure is obsolete.

Rogue AI agents are frequently accessing unauthorized data within Cisco's customer base, according to Cisco's SVP, Anthony Grieco. These incidents highlight a critical authorization gap, where agents, despite passing identity checks, exceed their operational scope.
Organizations are increasingly adopting AI agents, with 83% planning deployments. However, a significant majority (71%) feel unprepared to secure these capabilities, according to Cisco's State of AI Security 2026 report. The lack of granular control over agent actions is a major hurdle.
Adding to these security concerns, a recent report indicates that nearly half of critical network infrastructure across major geographies is aging or obsolete. This outdated infrastructure is no longer receiving security patches, exacerbating existing vulnerabilities and making it harder to detect and contain agent authorization failures.
