AGI is Here: Andreessen Declares AI Milestone Achieved
7 Jun
Summary
- AGI now exists, with models like GPT-5.5, Claude 4.6, and Gemini 3.0 achieving human-level intelligence.
- The Turing Test was surpassed by ChatGPT's launch in late 2022.
- Andreessen warns of an 'AI vampire' effect, where workers may produce more and sleep less.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), defined as AI matching human intellect, has now arrived, according to Marc Andreessen. He stated in a recent interview that cutting-edge models, including GPT-5.5, Claude 4.6, and Gemini 3.0, achieved this milestone in the first half of 2026.
Andreessen believes these systems exhibit world-class capabilities across professions, demonstrating fluid reasoning and vast recall. He cited ChatGPT's 2022 release as surpassing the long-standing Turing Test, yet observed a societal underestimation of AI's rapid advancement.
While optimistic about AI's integration, similar to electricity or the internet, Andreessen cautioned against the 'AI vampire' effect, predicting that workers might paradoxically toil more as AI enhances productivity, leading to less rest.
The next frontier, he suggested, is physical AI, with AGI powering real-world robotics. Andreessen pointed to Tesla's progress in autonomy and humanoid robots as examples of this future.
