Lexus Retains Aging IS Sedan for 2026 with Tech and Styling Updates
9 Sep
Summary
- Lexus IS sedan getting a refresh, not a full redesign
- New features include 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, updated climate controls
- Improved handling with electric power steering and adaptive suspension

In September 2025, Lexus announced it will be retaining its IS sedan for the 2026 model year, despite the launch of the new, larger ES model. The IS, which has been around since 2013, is receiving a refresh rather than a full redesign.
While the overall dimensions of the IS remain largely unchanged, with only a slight increase in length, Lexus has updated the sedan's styling. New paint colors, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a revised rear spoiler give the 2026 IS a fresh look. Inside, the cabin has also been updated, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen of the same size now standard. Lexus has also reworked the climate controls and replaced the analog clock.
Under the skin, the 2026 IS benefits from an updated suspension system, including rack-parallel electric power steering for improved handling and a linear solenoid-type adaptive suspension for a more comfortable ride on bumpy roads. However, the high-performance IS500 model with its naturally aspirated V8 engine appears to have been discontinued, with the 2026 IS lineup limited to the IS 350 and IS 300h variants.
Lexus has also expanded the IS's suite of safety and driver assistance technologies, including a hands-off highway driving function. The 2026 IS is expected to launch in select markets early next year.
