Summary
- Zimbabwean cricketer Sean Williams entered drug rehabilitation program
- Williams' international career effectively over due to disciplinary issues
- Williams played 164 ODIs for Zimbabwe, scoring 5,217 runs and taking 86 wickets

As of November 5th, 2025, Zimbabwean cricketer Sean Williams has effectively ended his international career after voluntarily entering a rehabilitation program for drug addiction. The 39-year-old former Zimbabwe captain had opted out of a T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier series in September, and an internal investigation by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) revealed that Williams had "disclosed that he has been struggling with drug addiction."
In response, ZC has concluded that Williams will no longer be considered for national selection. The cricketing body cited a "history of disciplinary issues and repeated unavailability" that had impacted the team's preparations and performance. While commending Williams for seeking rehabilitation, ZC expressed serious concerns regarding his "professional and ethical standards."
Over the course of his 20-year international career, Williams made his debut for Zimbabwe in 2005 and played all three formats of the game. He was most prolific in ODI cricket, scoring 5,217 runs in 164 matches at an average of 37.53 and taking 86 wickets. Despite the decision to end his international career, ZC acknowledged Williams' "immense contribution to Zimbabwean cricket" and the "lasting legacy" he leaves both on and off the field.
