Za'Darius Smith, a three-time Pro Bowl edge rusher, is coming out of a brief retirement to sign with the Atlanta Falcons. This move marks his return to the NFL after a short hiatus.
Last season, Smith played five games for the Philadelphia Eagles, registering 1.5 sacks. He abruptly retired in October of that season. Smith has a history with several NFL teams, including a stint with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Detroit Lions in 2024.
Smith initially blossomed with the Green Bay Packers, earning Pro Bowl honors twice and an All-Pro selection. After missing most of the 2021 season due to injury, he had a strong comeback with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, recording 10 sacks and making another Pro Bowl.
With this new agreement, the 33-year-old Smith will be joining his seventh NFL team. He previously worked out for the Browns on Thursday.
