Zach Neto, shortstop for the Los Angeles Angels, has secured his first American League Player of the Week award for his outstanding performance between August 17 and August 23, 2026. This recognition follows a challenging period for Neto after the All-Star break. During the recent seven-day stretch, Neto demonstrated remarkable offensive prowess, batting .500 across six games.
His performance included seven extra-base hits and nine runs batted in. Neto's 14 hits led all of Major League Baseball, and he tied for the league lead in batting average during this span. His offensive surge, marked by a 303 wRC+, significantly outpaced his teammates and placed him among the top hitters in the league.
This marks Neto's second Player of the Week honor, with his first occurring during the 2025 season. Currently, he has amassed 22 home runs and 18 stolen bases in the 2026 season, positioning him for a third consecutive 20/20 season. Despite an increase in strikeouts this year, which currently stand at 175 and tie him for most in the AL, Neto remains a crucial player for the Angels.
