Veteran tight end Zach Ertz is set to rejoin the Philadelphia Eagles, signing with the team's practice squad. This move comes as a direct response to Dallas Goedert suffering a significant MCL sprain, which will sideline him for multiple weeks.
Ertz, 35, is anticipated to be promoted from the practice squad and ready for action as early as Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears. His return is particularly noteworthy as it occurs roughly nine months after he sustained a serious knee injury in December 2025, tearing his ACL, lateral collateral ligament, and hamstring.
Despite the severity of his past injury, Ertz expressed a desire not to end his career with the image of being carted off the field. The Eagles originally drafted Ertz in 2013, and he played for them until being traded to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 of the 2021 season.
Ertz has accumulated 825 receptions for 8,592 yards and 57 touchdowns over 181 career regular-season games. He is currently just 11 receptions shy of breaking Harold Carmichael's franchise record of 589 catches, which would make him the Eagles' all-time leader in receptions.
