Devanshi Sharma, a constable with the Rajasthan Police, has achieved a monumental success by winning gold at the inaugural World Yogasana Championship in the Senior B Hand Balance Individual category. This victory marks the culmination of a lifelong dream for Sharma, who aspired to represent India for nearly two decades.
Her transformative journey in yoga began in 2014, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposal for International Yoga Day. Sharma secured a yoga instructor position, teaching in public spaces across Jaipur for six years. This role was a critical turning point, providing her with stability and a meaningful career.
Nine years ago, Sharma joined the Rajasthan Police through the sports quota, fulfilling her mother's wish. Though her wrestling background helped her secure the position, she had already shifted her focus to yoga. The police department's support enabled her to pursue Yogasana competitively.
Sharma's dedication involved significant personal sacrifice, including being away from her 15-month-old toddler for nearly a month to attend a preparatory camp. This separation was difficult, but ultimately she decided it was best for her to focus on the sport. Her gold medal was dedicated to her spiritual guides, family, and especially her husband.
Prior to the World Championship, Sharma showcased her prowess by winning four gold medals at the All-India Police Championship, demonstrating her consistent dominance in the sport.
