According to New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone, star slugger Giancarlo Stanton is poised to make his return to the outfield in the coming days, ending a nearly two-year absence from the position. Stanton has been relegated to designated hitter duties in recent weeks as the team has prioritized the recovery of outfielder Aaron Judge, who is working his way back from a flexor tendon strain.
However, Boone indicated that Stanton could be back in the outfield as soon as this Saturday, stating there is a "good chance" fans will see Stanton patrolling the outfield once again. Stanton's last appearance in the outfield came on September 14, 2023, during a game against the Boston Red Sox. Prior to that, his most recent outfield action at Yankee Stadium was on September 9, 2023, against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Stanton, who has struggled with various injuries over the past few seasons, has been working diligently to prepare for his outfield return, spending time during batting practice fielding fly balls and grounders under the guidance of third base coach Luis Rojas. While Boone acknowledged that Stanton's range may be somewhat limited, the manager expressed confidence in the slugger's ability to make the necessary plays.
