Yankees Promote Top Prospect Lombard Jr.

The New York Yankees have promoted their top prospect, George Lombard Jr., to the major league team. This significant roster move follows the recent decision to option shortstop Anthony Volpe and outfielder Jasson Domínguez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Lombard, who is ranked as the Yankees' No. 1 overall prospect and the No. 20 prospect in MLB, is expected to take one of the open roster spots.

Selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft, the 21-year-old Lombard is a shortstop with a scouting report that projects him to deliver more power than contact, complemented by strong defense. In 78 minor-league games this season, he demonstrated his offensive potential, achieving a .284 batting average with 12 home runs and 33 RBI. The Yankees also recently acquired outfielder Heliot Ramos and first baseman Luis García Jr. ahead of the trade deadline, while trading reliever Camilo Doval.
