- Velzeboer holds a world record in the 500m event.

Dutch short track speed skater Xandra Velzeboer triumphed in the women's 1000 metres event at the Milan Cortina Olympics, marking her second individual gold medal. This win further solidifies the Netherlands' strong presence in the competition.
Velzeboer's earlier success came in the 500 metres race, where she not only won gold but also set a new world record during the qualifiers. Her performance mirrors that of her compatriot, Jens van 't Wout, who also achieved two gold medals in the men's events.
In the closely contested 1000 metres final, Canada's Courtney Sarault finished with the silver medal, and Kim Gil-li of South Korea took home the bronze. Italian legend Arianna Fontana finished fourth, narrowly missing an opportunity to set a new national record for Olympic medals.
Sarault had previously won bronze in the 500 metres competition earlier in the week, an event where Fontana secured the silver medal.
