Summary

- He is a two-way player, excelling as both pitcher and hitter.
- Brown is expected to focus on pitching development for WVU.

West Virginia has welcomed two-way player Ryan Brown, who transferred from Queens University. Brown, the former A-Sun preseason Freshman of the Year, committed to the Mountaineers on Saturday, citing the program's developmental resources and coaching staff as key factors. He expressed that WVU "feels like home."
Brown is recovering from Tommy John surgery, which caused him to miss the 2026 season. He is expected to be fully cleared for game play within weeks and will be ready for the 2027 campaign. As a pitcher, he previously touched 94 mph pre-surgery and is currently sitting at 92.4 mph, with expectations of returning to the mid-90s after winter workouts.
In his 20 appearances for Queens, Brown posted a 5.61 ERA and a 1.584 WHIP, striking out 45 batters in 59.1 innings. Offensively, he batted .289 with three home runs. Despite his hitting ability, Brown's primary role with West Virginia will be as a pitcher. He becomes the seventh pitcher to commit to the Mountaineers from the transfer portal this offseason.
